Long Beach Murals

Our Vision

Our vision for our art gallery is to learn more about the history and culture of the city of Long Beach. This city has so much to offer and to uncover. The curators of this art gallery attend California State University Long Beach and we wish to uncover new things about this city, as it has so much to offer. From its Chicano roots to how it was founded, we can all learn a little bit more from the city we know and adore. Long Beach is filled with tight communities that express themselves in their own ways. These murals are a representation of our artists and how they express those very same emotions.

Our mission as an art gallery is to expose other people to the art pieces that these artists created. Their message is important for others to be informed about in order to express our cultural background, because it is a part of who we are. After viewing these art pieces we have to offer, we hope you decide to go visit some of these murals yourself and experience them firsthand. The creators of this art gallery personally visited the artists’ work as an adventure- to explore the city more then we are accustomed to. Always so busy going back and forth between job, home or school, we hardly appreciate society anywhere close to the way we should.

In our art gallery we hold multiple different ideas being expressed in their own way. We have John Valadez who focused on Los Angeles culture. Sandow Birk who utilized ceramic tiles as the primary material he used to form a unique method of creating his work. Art Mortimer focuses more on historical moments as snapshots using different shapes to capture the moment. Finally, Albert Henry King used a method called easel painting, which is painting vertically. Each of these artists still have the same concept of expressing their ideology, but in a different way.
